Upon starting to read Crime and Punishment, I noticed that the names are very different from traditional American names. This is, of course, because of the origin of the novel, Russia. Since I have no experience with Russian names or culture, I had a difficult time depicting the people as I would be able to in an American novel. Even receiving character lists from a literary cultured friend, I saw that the lists were inadequate in one way or another. I am going to therefore try to create a list of my own that I hope will serve those that start and hopefully finish the journey of reading Crime and Punishment.

***The book that I am reading from is the Bantam Classic paperback version of Crime and Punishment. It has an introduction by Joseph Frank and the book was published in March 1981.
